P.G.B.L. Rules

1. Preamble

The PGBL is an adult basketball league for Greek adults 18 years and older.  The league will start in early October and run throughout the winter.

2. Entry Regulations:

   A.) Each team will submit, prior to September 15th, its official roster, which will list all of its players along with a photo copy of each player's valid id. The team fee will change annually depending on how many registered teams participate every year.  The fee will be posted on the homepage of the website each year and is due along with the roster by the deadline stated above.  A player's name may only appear on one roster. No additions or deletions will be allowed after the roster is submitted.

   B.) Each player must be over 18 years of age by October 1st.

   C.) There will be a minimum of 8 players and a maximum of 12 on a registering team.


3. Team and Player Regulations:

   A.) Each player participating in the P.G.B.L. MUST be of Greek descent and able to prove with their birth certificate, and BOTH their parents birth certificates, that they are at least 50% Greek.  If a team is caught with a player LESS than 50% Greek, that team will forfeit ALL games played with this player.

   B.) Each player will be listed in the official scorebook for every game. The score keeper will mark them absent or present for that game. Every player on the roster will be eligible to play in the playoffs, regardless of how many regular season games they have missed.  They must be on the original roster though handed in during registration at the beginning of the season.

   C.) Each team must be in proper uniform with numbers on the jerseys.

   D.) Each team MUST be on time for its respective games. After a 10 minute grace period for teams with less than 5 players present, the late arriving team will forfeit the game. No rescheduling will be allowed. An exception to this rule may be made due to weather conditions, with the approval of one of the commisioners. The 10 minute grace period is only given to teams that are short a player to start the game.  Thus any team who has at least 5 players in the gym MUST START THE GAME at their scheduled time.

   E.) Should a player recieve 2 technical fouls, he will be ejected from that game. If a player is ejected from 2 games, he will be suspended for 1 game. If a player is ejected from 3 games, he will be suspended for the remainder of the season. (does not include playoffs).  If a player is involved in a physical altercation, the commissioners reserve the right to evoke stricter penalties.

   F.) A team shall forfeit a game if an ineligible player has participated.

   G.) A team may begin a game with no less than 4 players present, and may finish a game with no less than 3 players.

   H.) If a player comes late he must make sure he is entered in the score book BEFORE he enters into the game. 

4. Game Regulations:

   A.) Game length: 2-20 minute halves. Running clock. Clock will only stop for timeouts, shooting fouls and for every whistle with under 1 minute remaining in 1st half and under 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd half.  Clock will stop no made baskets only during the last minute of the game.

   B.) Penalty: The opposing team will shoot the penalty (one and one) upon the seventh (7) team foul of each half. 2 free throws will be shot upon the tenth (10) foul of each half.

   C.) A player will be removed from the game upon receiving his 5th personnel foul, or 2nd technical foul.

   D.) 3 point shot will be in effect.

   E.) Each team will be permitted 3 timeouts per half.  Timeouts DO NOT carryover to the 2nd half.  Teams get 3 more timeouts for 2nd half regardless of how many timeouts they used in the 1st half.  During each overtime period 2 timeouts will be given to each team.

   F.) Overtime period will be 3 minutes, clock will stop at every whistle, and made baskets during the last minute.

5. Scorekeeping

   A.) Player and team points will be kept by an official scorekeeper at every game.

   B.) Player and team points will all be totalled, averaged out and updated onto the website. 

   C.) At the season's end, the scoring title will be given to the player with the highest points per game average. ( Must have played in at least 50% of total scheduled games )

6. Playoffs

   A.) Top 4 teams from each division advance to playoffs. (total of 8 teams) 

   B.)  There will only be a championship game.  There will be no 3rd & 4th place game.

7. Tie Breakers

   A.) Should there be a tie between two teams at the end of the regular season, the 1st tie breaker will be the head to head matchup.   
   B.)  Divisional Record
   C.)  Non-Divisional Record  
   D.) Point differential in the head to head matchups                                                                                                                                                                       E.) One game playoff
   F.)  All of these tie breakers also apply to MULTIPLE TEAM ties.

8. Grievances

   A.) Any grievance should be submitted, via email, to the commisioners within one week of the game.

   B.) The league's decision shall be final. It shall be empowered to issue suspensions and other necessary actions
